We will be using various means (pigeon holes, post, hand delivery) to try to get cards to all students and University staff.
Gift will have a stall at the Freshers’ Fayre where you can get cards.
There will be cards available around the campus, but if you haven’t got yours ask at the Union offices or e-mail us your address and we’ll send you one.
You can use the Card to get discounts at local retailers, restaurants, bars and leisure facilities which are set out on the website. All you have to do is present the card at the point of purchase and you will be given the discounts or offers available. If you use the Gifted Website to shop online not only will you be able to take advantage of the, often exclusive, discounts and offers available but also you will generate a donation to Southampton University Students Union each time you make a purchase – all at no extra cost to you.
Anybody – but they are only being offered to Southampton University students and staff.
Once you have your Card you need to register online. We need to have this information so that the donation we make when you make a purchase online goes to your Students Union. Once you’ve registered you can start shopping at anywhere that displays the Gifted sticker – the full list of where you can shop and get great discounts and offers is on the website.
All you have to do when you shop online is to remember to go to the Gifted Website first, and then select the retailer you want to buy from.
Every time someone spends money through the Gifted Website it generates a commission. Gift donates an amount equal to 50% of that commission to the Students Union. You can see what percentage of your spend will be donated by looking on the online shopping part of the website. The commissions (and, thus the donations) retailers give vary depending on the goods purchased and the retailer in question.
There is no cost to the Students Union. Gift provides all the marketing and promotional material – Cards, carriers, boxes, posters, leaflets etc. – free of charge (that is what we use the other 50% of the commission for). All the Union has to do is put these materials to use – display posters and distribute leaflets, make Cards available to anyone who wants them. The more the Union publicises its involvement to its members, University staff, and friends and family the more they receive in donations!
Gift will automatically issue payments to the Union each month. Surprisingly on average it takes around 14 days for an online sale to be finally completed (although in some cases it can take up to 60 days!). This is, however, still subject to final confirmation and payment being received by Gift from the retailer. The length of time varies because of various factors such as individual retailer purchase confirmation, differing billing methods and return policies. It is only once the transaction has been confirmed that Gift will receive the commission, and it is only once we have the commission that we have the information necessary to make the donation.
This will generate a negative commission that will reduce the amount of the donation made.
Absolutely not – whether online or in store. The price of items you choose to purchase will be exactly the same if you go through the Gifted Website as if you went straight to the retailer’s site. The same applies in store. The price you pay will not change – although it may be less, as you will be eligible to benefit from the offers that you will only be able to get through Gift!
We have made every possible effort to make it so. Once you move on to different retailers' sites then they are responsible for their own website security.
